King's Canyon

As part of the weekend at Sequoia National Park, Jer and I also dropped by King's Canyon. Wow! It was incredible! Enjoy some pictures below!

On our way into the park, we stopped by the General Grant tree which is the three with the largest diameter... 40 feet across! Its pretty gigantic!

Fire damages parts of the tree, but as you can see, this one is still holding on despite being hollowed out in the middle

And viola! We are now approaching King's Canyon

I realize this doesn't look really that cool in a picture, but we were pretty impressed by these sheer rock cliff walls on either side of the road. They look much bigger in person

And we begin the hike! We drove all the way to the end (literally the END) of the road in the canyon and started hiking into the wilderness

We hiked up to this waterfall and there were some crazy people up above that we were afraid were gonna fall down. Thankfully, they had good grip on their shoes and didn't slip.

Sequoia National Park

Over Labor Day weekend, Jer and I decided to check of one of our bucket list items and see Sequioa National Forest. They call this the forest of the giants for good reason. The trees are HUGE! You really can't appreciate them until you are there, but here are some pictures anyway to give you an idea of just how big these thousand year old trees can actually be.

Above is the outline of the largest tree in the world by volume - the General Sherman tree

Above are pictures of the Sherman tree. They have had to put fences around the big trees because people would carve initials or take a piece of bark home with them as a souvenir. 

Above is a cluster of sequoia trees called the Senate

Feeling a bit small!

While hiking we came across this tree that had fallen. It was huge! Check out those roots!

Not every day you get to walk though a tree!

Roots must be pretty strong to grow through rock.
